Alma, a classified building

blog alma otel

Walking around the Alma Hotel & Lounge is almost like antiquing in a flea market – you never know what to expect and each place, each room, is a piece of art, which you can visit as a museum. Alma herself would love this labyrinth where each bedroom reminds of what she brought back from her travels. Open the first door and discover reclaimed woods, hand-loomed textiles and Turkish rugs… Enter another room and admire wooden cabinets, ornaments… Each design creates an environment as tactile as it is photogenic- resembling a post card you would receive from Alma herself.

Ari Shaltiel, whom we do not need to present anymore, so mush his talent is praised in Israel and abroad, preserved the old mosaics and the 19th-century features. He even decided to keep intact each wall of this former eclectic mansion, built in 1925 by Dov Tchendovski . In an attempt to give a contemporary touch to the foundation, he added pieces of metal between the original glass on the walls. He believes that “walls have ears” and if you listen carefully, you might hear them telling stories.

At Alma Hotel & Lounge, you travel through Alma space and time, discovering, in its corridors many symbols and icons, as if they were the pieces of a puzzle enabling you to unlock Alma’s secrets. Entering the Restaurant, and you will be welcomed by a bright and shiny deer, as a timeless and majestic symbol of the refinement brought by Arie Shaltiel to the whole place...

Opening the door of the Alma’s Room, we find a genuine stone on the wall, right on the top of the bed, as if extracted from the very first foundations of Alma building.

In the Pasha Room, the child pashas share their eternally young vision of a delicate and high comfort venue – and this is such a Tel Avivian feeling! The charm of Alma Hotel & Lounge does not only rely on the unique pieces of furniture, divine content of a Pandora box, waiting to be opened. Alma Hotel & Lounge is one of the better-kept secrets hotel boutique, and most knowledgeable guides in Tel Aviv add a stop there, if only to explain the soul of this unique place.
